The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, gave a speech by video-conference at the inaugural event of the Conference and undertook to address the measures necessary to enable the recovery of inbound tourism in the wake of COVID-19. To make the resumption of safe international travel possible, we must use new tools available such as diagnostic tests that are more accessible and reliable to ensure that international travel guarantees safety".

The President of the Government also pointed out that the crisis must turn into an opportunity to modernise the international tourism sector and make it more inclusive, accessible, sustainable and to better distribute wealth, and recalled that, although the future without COVID-19 is closer now, until its arrival we must mitigate the effects of this crisis in the tourism sector to the benefit of millions of families and companies throughout the world.

Recommendations in the "La Palma Declaration"

Organised by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism in collaboration with the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the International Conference on the Recovery of Tourism post-COVID-19 contained various recommendations in the Declaration of the La Palma Conference "On the Recovery of International Tourism".
