The meeting, also attended by the Minister for Territorial Policy and Public Function, Carolina Darias, was used to address the main issues of interest in the Canary Islands, such as the need to strengthen a safe and sustainable tourist sector.

The President of the Government stressed the need to enhance coordination and dialogue between the different tiers of government within the framework of a co-governance strategy that the government considers to be essential, both at a health level and regarding the economic and social reconstruction. By way of example, he also quoted the renewed boost to the Conference of Regional Presidents, the top institutional cooperation body in the State of autonomies.

Pedro Sánchez sought to reiterate the government's commitment to the Canary Islands through unity, cooperation and institutional loyalty, which includes a boost from the European project to help address the major transformations facing Spain and that represent an opportunity to modernise the productive fabric.

At the end of the meeting, the President of the Regional Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, handed the President of the Government a series of artworks entitled "The Canary Islands, more than just a gift", through which the artist Ruperto Cabrera offers a renewed vision of the islands, tied into eight literary texts by Canary Island writers that evoke the essence of each one of the islands.

In addition, the President of the Island Council gave the President of the Government a plate by the Canary Island artist César Manrique and a timple from Lanzarote - a traditional island instrument produced by an instrument maker from the town of Tías.
