The President of the Government took part in the virtual presentation of the online edition of the Pan-Hispanic Dictionary of legal Spanish, held at the headquarters of the Royal Spanish Language Academy.

The dictionary is a very useful tool, which spans the legal language of the Hispano-American community and directly ties in with the legislations of the different member countries.

The introduction of the online service of this work, drafted by a team of more than 400 jurists and philologists from America and Spain, under the leadership of the Director of the Royal Spanish Language Academy and the President of the Association of Spanish Language Academies, Santiago Muñoz Machado, follows the policies to boost the clarity of legal language pushed through at the Ibero-American Judicial Summit.

Captura de vídeoIn his speech, Pedro Sánchez pointed out that "most of the terms used in this outstanding work belong to the common acquis [body of law], but many others represent the linguistic characteristics of each of the countries".

Never before has a work been drafted that alphabetically contains the language of the law, added the President of the Government, who specified that the vast compilation it offers, with more than 40,000 entries, is designed to improve the use of this specialised language and help people become more familiar with it.

"Language is a great ambassador. It paves the way to the law, to the economy, to diplomatic understanding and to the progress of peoples. It serves to create a community like no other instrument. There can be no justice without language. Its good use is the indisputable task that civil forces are compelled to employ", said the President of the Government.

Pedro Sánchez also claimed that "language ties in the paths of social dialogue and co-existence and is conclusive for understanding between citizens and public representatives helps society progress".
