Minister Robles began by congratulating the new Minister of the French Armed Forces, Lecornu, who was appointed on 20 May by President Emmanuel Macron, replacing Florence Parly.

Both ministers highlighted the strength of the relationship between France and Spain and between their defence ministries which, in the words of Robles, "have an intense bond of friendship and cooperation based on a shared vision of a Europe of Defence as an essential element for the prosperity of our citizens".

Addressing the matter of NATO's and the European Union's response to the war in Ukraine, they agreed that both organisations have acted swiftly, decisively and, above all, cohesively in upholding the rules that should govern relations between states.

Robles also underlined the opportunity presented by the new NATO Strategic Concept to be approved at the Madrid Summit to make the "Alliance more important than ever for our security".

Lecornu and Robles also expressed their willingness to continue to work together in Africa and the Indo-Pacific "where there are common interests and numerous examples of the good understanding between our respective armed forces".
