Spain and Andorra sign a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen cooperation in the health field

As stated in the text, the memorandum aims to create favourable conditions for the intensification of bilateral activities, for the development of cooperation and technical assistance in the field of health between the two countries.

This will promote the exchange of experience and information and enhanced dialogue, in addition to the improvement of health care services and the skills of health professionals, with the aim of consolidating a framework for cooperation between health systems in the areas of care, planning, management of services and public health.

To this effect, cooperation under the MoU will focus on emergency management and disaster medicine in the common border area; the preparation and management of health emergencies; collaboration in health care and shared management of resources; and cooperation in training, research and the exchange of knowledge and experience between the two territories, to ensure the continuous improvement of the quality of care.

Cooperation in training, research and the exchange of knowledge and experience between the two territories will also be strengthened to guarantee the continuous improvement of healthcare quality. The development of technological innovation in general and specifically in relation to advances in telemedicine, shared health records and e-health will also be implemented.

The memorandum will also facilitate the exchange of experiences in the field of public health and the development of cooperation in different healthcare specialties such as traumatology and orthopaedics, oncology, cardiology, geriatrics, and mental health specialties, among others.

Last, collaboration will be promoted in the areas of pharmaceutical inspection and advice, access to medicines and their safety and rational use, the training of professionals in these areas, and the donation and transplantation of organs, tissues and cells.

The signing ceremony of the memorandum was also attended by the Andorran Secretary of State for Health, Helena Mas; the Secretary of State for Health, Silvia Calzón; the Secretary General for Digital Health and Information Systems for the NHS, Juan Fernando Muñoz; and the Spanish Ambassador to Andorra, Vicenç Mateu Zamora, among others.
