The campaign, which includes videos and other graphic material, seeks to raise awareness among users that of the necessity to maintain social distancing measures to recover the new normality in a safe fashion.

The aim is for travellers to realise that compliance with the advice and rules established by the health and transport authorities falls within their area of responsibility and that they can count on the collaboration of public and private transport companies and institutions to ensure social distancing is suitably respected.

Rules on travelling on public transport

The campaign stresses compliance with the main rules on the use of public transport during the state of emergency:

  1. Do not use public transport if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or if you or someone in your home has symptoms compatible with the disease.
  2. Avoid travel that is not strictly necessary. Whenever possible, use electronic means to perform your work or to handle formalities.
  3. If you must travel, preferably do so on foot, by bicycle or by any other means of individual transport.
  4. Consult timetables before leaving to travel and plan your movements with sufficient time. Keep abreast of reduced services, bus stops and stations that have been closed.
  5. Try and avoid public transport if you belong to an at-risk group.
  6. Avoid rush hour whenever possible.
  7. Avoid paying in cash. Preferably use vending machines and pay by bank card.
  8. Maintain the rules on respiratory hygiene.
  9. Wear a face mask when using public transport, both in vehicles and at stations, stops and in corridors/passageways.
  10. Avoid, as far as possible, talking with other users or by phone. Do not eat or drink.
  11. Try and respect social distancing from other users.
  • Whenever going in and out of stations, also keep a distance from other users, particularly if queues form when validating you ticket.
  • Stand apart at bus stops, on station platforms and inside trains/buses to keep your social distance.
  • Stay in single file on escalators, without overtaking those in front and keep at least two steps apart.
  • Do not use lifts unless absolutely necessary.
  • Maintain a safe distance from the edge of the platform or the road when a train/bus is arriving, and do not approach the doors until those users already on the train/bus alight.
  • Do not pass others when getting on and off the train/bus. Do not rush to get on and off. The train/bus will not leave until all passengers have got on or off.

12. Pay attention to display boards, warnings over the public announcement system and indications from drivers and security staff. This will help prevent infection.

13. Before beginning your journey and after it ends, wash your hands carefully with soap and water or with a sanitising liquid.

14. Spend as little time as possible in stations.
