José Guirao supports presence of Spanish culture in Beijing

At this meeting, various lines of collaboration were opened. Both delegations expressed an interest in the exchange of exhibitions. In addition, the acting minister offered the curator of the museum in the Forbidden City in Beijing the support of Spanish restoration experts to work side-by-side with their Chinese counterparts.

The Forbidden City is a palace complex with more than six centuries of history that hosts the Palace Museum, with an extensive collection of ceramics, paintings and jade, among many other assets. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987.

The teams, both from the museum and from the Spanish embassy, agreed to continue with this proposal and resume contact with the Ministry of Culture over the coming weeks.

Visit to Cervantes Institute in Beijing

On the same, day, José Guirao visited the facilities of the Cervantes Institute in the Chinese capital and was shown around by its director, Inmaculada González Puy.

The Cervantes Institute in Beijing has dealt with the enrolment of some 4,500 students of the Spanish language in this latest academic year, from among 7,000 candidates, and has developed more than 200 cultural activities. China is the third leading country in terms of the number of students signed up to take official exams in the Spanish language.
