The government has launched a communication campaign on Brexit, whereby it seeks to provide citizens and economic operators with all the information related to the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, which will take place, in principle, on 30 March this year.

The central feature of this campaign is the publication of the space entitled 'Prepared for Brexit', within the official web page of the Spanish Government, in which it explains what Brexit is, the negotiation process and the current situation.

As well as presenting the current situation and the different possible scenarios, information of interest is provided on residency, customs, healthcare and trade, and information on how to prepare for the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, both if Brexit takes place with an agreement and without an agreement.

Updated information on the process

The negotiators for both the European Union and for the United Kingdom presented a consensual text for the withdrawal which was accepted by the European Council on 25 November 2018 and which will be voted on by the British Parliament on Tuesday.

The Government of Spain is pushing through, at both a national and a European level, the actions necessary to alleviate the undesirable outcome of a withdrawal without an agreement. This informative campaign forms part of the contingency plans drawn up by the government for the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, a plan which, in the event of Brexit without an agreement, provides for legislative, logistical and communication measures to address the situation.

In the event that the United Kingdom does not ratify the agreement, the Government of Spain plans to approve the legislative measures of the contingency plan in February, focused on the rights of citizens, trade relations and the most affected economic sectors.

The new web space will provide updated information on all these legislative measures and will also include news related to Brexit as and when this arises.
