Moncloa Palace, Madrid

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various current affairs affecting NATO that will foreseeably be the subject of debate at the upcoming Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held in Brussels in July.

Noteworthy among these issues were NATO's approach to the challenges on the southern flank of the Euro-Atlantic zone, the role of NATO in the fight against terrorism and the commitments to invest in defence to balance out the burdens among the 28 allies.

They also reviewed the situation in neighbouring areas close to NATO's theatre of operations, in Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, with the aim of improving a common vision of these theatres in light of the upcoming summit in Brussels.
