Mariano Rajoy sends condolences to Donald Trump following attack in New York

Wednesday 1 November 2017

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, sent the following telegram of condolence to the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, over the attack carried out in New York:

"Dear President,

I am writing to you to convey, in my own name and on behalf of my government, my deepest sympathies over the dreadful terrorist attack carried out in Lower Manhattan, killing at least eight people and injuring more than a dozen others.

I would ask that you pass on our condolences to the families of the victims, and our best wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured.

At this time of pain, you can rest assured that you will feel the solidarity of my government and of all of Spain. The United States of America and Spain are allies and friends. Our determination to continue our joint fight against the scourge of terrorism and blind and senseless hatred is further reinforced today. We know that, despite the pain caused, terrorists never achieve their goal of breaking the spirit of free societies".
