Mariano Rajoy received António Costa at Matacán Air Base (Salamanca), from where they travelled, together with their respective delegations, to Vega de Terrón, in the municipality of La Fregeneda, where they boarded the ship "Douro Elegance".

At the meeting, which highlighted the excellent relations and the great harmony prevailing between Spain and Portugal, the two leaders will also address issues of an international nature, such as the consequences of the withdrawal by the United Kingdom from the European Union, and will ratify their commitment to the European project.

In parallel, the ministers and State secretaries that make up the delegations from the two countries will hold sector meetings. In attendance on the Spanish part are the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Alfonso Dastis; Defence, María Dolores de Cospedal; Home Affairs, Juan Ignacio Zoido; Public Works, Íñigo de la Serna; Education, Culture and Sport, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo; Employment and Social Security, Fátima Báñez; Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environmental Affairs, Isabel García Tejerina, as well as the State Secretary for Research, Development and Innovation, María Carmen Vela Olmo.
