In statements given to the media, the President of the Government stressed that he will work to ensure there is a moderated and sensible government that has sufficient support in Parliament to govern, "because stability, security and certainty are very important for everything; for the economy and the normal operation of the country". In his opinion, "vetoes do not add anything; neither in politics nor in any other walk of life".

Mariano Rajoy highlighted the figures released by the Labour Force Survey on the first quarter of this year, according to which "there are now 575,000 more Spaniards in work than there were last year". The President of the Government believes that, "if we do things right, there will be 20 million Spaniards in work by the end of 2019, which would represent a job creation rate of 500,000 per year". Mariano Rajoy sees "that as the great challenge, that is the target, but we should not change economic policy, we should persevere with what has been done already and, if we act sensibly, with care and common sense, we will achieve those goals".
