Mariano Rajoy and Angela Merkel walk a stretch of St. James's Way

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, accompanied by the President of the Regional Government of Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and the government delegate to Galicia, Samuel Juárez, received the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, at Lavacolla Airport in Santiago de Compostela.

Mariano Rajoy and Angela Merkel then set off to walk a stretch of about six kilometres of St James's Way. This first day of the German leader's visit to Spain will be followed on Monday by a work meeting between the two leaders followed by a joint press conference.

Angela Merkel's visit to Spain takes place one week prior to the extraordinary European Council that will take place on Saturday 30 August in Brussels.
