Average number of foreign citizens registered with Spanish Social Security system stands at 1,851,014 in October

The highest figures for foreign workers contributing to the Social Security system correspond to Romania (326,711), Morocco (225,444), China (100,404), Italy (100,086) and Ecuador (70,479). These countries are followed by the United Kingdom (65,254), Bulgaria (57,412), Colombia (56,855), and Bolivia (49,903).

Autonomous regions

In month-on-month terms, the number of foreign National Insurance contributors rose in all autonomous regions, except Castile La Mancha (down 13.01%), the Balearic Islands (down 12.09%), La Rioja (down 9.92%), Aragon (down 6%), Catalonia (down 2.6%), Cantabria (down 1.7%), the Basque Country (down 0.44%) and Asturias (down 0.16%).

The figures posted for October show that 1,070,230 of the total foreign citizens registered with the Spanish Social Security system are from countries outside of the European Union, while the remaining 780,784 are from EU countries.

The majority of foreign citizens are registered under the General Regime: 1,544,931 in total, a figure that includes the Special System for Agricultural Workers (204,108) and the Special System for Domestic Workers (181,050). This is followed by the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (301,218), the Special Regime for Seamen (4,728) and the Special Regime for Coal Workers (136).

Of the total foreign citizens in the system in October, 1,031,362 are men and 819,652 are women.
