Thursday 16 November sees the inauguration in Lisbon of two new cultural/artistic projects in the Mostra Espanha 2017 programme: "Una exposición a dos voces" (An Exhibition of Two Voices) in Galería Trasboavista in Lisbon, and "A fronteira de papel" (The Paper Frontier) at the José Saramago Foundation. Organised by the State Secretary for Culture, the two exhibitions aim to strengthen the bridges between Spanish and Portuguese culture.

Una exposición a dos voces

The project "Una exposición a dos voces" has been organised in collaboration with Plataforma Revólver, and can be viewed in the rooms of Galería Trasboavista, Lisbon, until 22 January 2018.

The exhibition is curated by Andrea Rodríguez Novoa and Verónica Valentini, and brings together works by Jon Mikel Euba, June Crespo, Leonor Serrano, Cristina Garrido, Anna Dot and Juan López. The artists work in different fields and have diverging opinions on all aspects regarding the theory and practice of contemporary art, its advertising, sale, exchange and the generation of debate.

The exhibition is composed of two parallel projects: one expository and the other discursive. It aims to display the particularities of curators and artists who explore different techniques related to specific artistic practices. At the opening, four artists, the curators and the director of the gallery discussed creation, working methods and relations between artists and curators.

Through this exhibition Mostra Espanha enters into contact with the most contemporary art and with a public that wants to access a comprehensive approach to the genesis of contemporary art, its forms of creation and its moving towards to or distancing itself from a new type of public.

A fronteira de papel

The exhibition of books "A Fronteira de Papel" (The Paper Frontier) will open its doors at the José Saramago Foundation, located in Casa dos Bicos in Lisbon. It aims to generate dialogue about Spanish and Portuguese authors and works from the initial decades of the 20th century.

The auditorium of the José Saramago Foundation, the location for talks, workshops, film cycles and literary encounters, will be furnished with tables covered by acrylic glass domes, designed and manufactured specially for this event. Under them will be a display of books by renowned Portuguese authors such as Eca de Queirós, Teixeira de Pascoaes and Antonio Lobo Antunes.

The works on display at this exhibition belong to a private collection of one of the biggest specialists in literary relations between Spain and Portugal early in the last century, Professor Antonio Sáez Delgado, of the University of Évora, who also acts as curator of the exhibition.

The display is supplemented by a round table on Spanish and Portuguese authors, which will take place at the headquarters of the Foundation on 14 December 2017. Those taking part will be Vasco Rosa, Carlos Reis, Jordi Cerdá and Enrique de Andrés, who will debate on the interchange of experience in narrative, plot, style and form between the literatures of the two countries and the result of these experiences.
