The Government of Spain expresses its rejection of the decision to proceed with the trial of the First Vice-President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, MP Freddy Guevara, who is banned from leaving the country

Spain condemns this new attack on democracy in Venezuela and against its National Assembly, the only legitimate legislative power in which national sovereignty is deposited. The procedure used and the repression of the democratic opposition are an affront to the rule of law and go against the principle of the separation of powers.

Spain reiterates its decisive commitment to all initiatives that serve to help reach a peaceful solution within the framework of urgent, effective and inclusive dialogue in Venezuela, with full respect for the rule of law and the separation of powers, as well as the liberation of political prisoners and the opening of a humanitarian channel that allows the living conditions of our sister nation of Venezuela to be improved.
