Spain welcomes political agreement in Democratic Republic of the Congo

The government also calls for its strict application and reiterates its condolences over the victims of the recent violent incidents of the last few weeks.

This agreement, negotiated thanks to the commendable work of the Conference of Bishops (French acronym: CENCO) and backed by the political and social forces in the country, should lead to democratic presidential elections being held within a stable framework while respecting the Constitution. The government urges all the parties to the agreement to comply with its terms in order to maintain the stability and governability of the Democratic Republic of the Congo until these elections are held within the term agreed upon.

The Government of Spain congratulates the political leaders who have made this agreement possible and urges them to maintain this, to ensure its practical implementation, to maintain the spirit of dialogue that has made this possible and the high level of cooperation reached.
