Spain wishes to pay tribute to his extensive work defending human rights and fundamental freedoms, which he always advocated respecting from a position of peace and harmony. Human rights, their protection and their promotion are essential conditions for global peace and the legacy that Liu Xiaobo leaves behind constitutes an extremely important contribution to this noble cause.
At this sad time, Spain wishes to express its deepest sympathies and solidarity with his wife Liu Xia, his family and friends, and conveys its support to all those people who defend human rights on a daily basis with their generosity and commitment.
