The arrested individuals are:

  • K.E.I.S., aged 27 and of Spanish nationality.
  • O.S.A.A, aged 18 and of Spanish nationality.

The investigation began within the framework of monitoring activities on radicalised individuals of a Jihadi nature that the Provincial Intelligence Brigade of Madrid of the Spanish National Police Force has been carrying out for some time when it became aware of a trip by K.E.I.S. to Turkey and his subsequent return to Spain a few days later across the Turkish-Hungarian border.

K.E.I.S. had already been involved in a number of acts that demonstrated his Islamist radicalism at a secondary school where he was studying a computing course. During the celebration of a minute's silence organised at the school in solidarity with the victims of the Paris attacks on 13 November 2015, he shouted out loud various phrases justifying said attack, which had a strong impact on his colleagues and teaching staff. Also at the same school, he publicly justified on several occasions two deadly attacks carried out by DAESH, even stating that the Islamic State is the best State for a Muslim to live in and telling his colleagues that he intended to fight in the ranks of DAESH.

He was also seen by his teachers and fellow students watching DAESH propaganda films during class, colleagues he later threatened to kill by saying that, one day, he would come to school with a gun and kill everyone, as well as other threats along similar lines.

Furthermore, K.E.I.S. visited a public library on an almost daily basis where he connected to the Internet and browsed numerous websites with Jihadi content. He also created various profiles "to hide his identity" on a number of social media networks via which he spread and glorified the ideas, activities and news of certain Jihadi terrorist organisations, especially DAESH. He also supported people serving sentences for Jihadi terrorist offences, criticised moderate Muslims and publicly expressed his wish for Spain to become an Islamic Emirate in the future.

The second arrested individual, O.S.A.A., aged 18 and also of Spanish nationality, is thought to be responsible for various offences involving the glorification of Jihadi terrorism.

Both individuals are being held by the Spanish Police Force while awaiting execution of the search warrant issued by Criminal Investigation Court Number 2 of the Spanish National High Court.

The operation remains ongoing.
