Olive oil market consolidates sales growth

The volume sold during the month of July amounts to 125,900 tonnes, the highest monthly figure so far this season. At 1,148,100 tonnes, the total volume to date since the start of the season back in October also slightly exceeds the sales figures from the last season.

Exports should be highlighted, which have posted highly balanced figures when compared with the average from previous seasons. Exports to non-EU countries are performing well, with growth close to 20% on last season. North America is performing especially well, with growth of over 40%.

The domestic table olive market has consolidated its results, with growth of 1% on the previous season. As regards exports in this area and although the figures remain lower than last season, which was exceptional, an upward trend has been seen for several months now. Total trade amounts to 472,580 tonnes.

The olive oil market

The data show that olive production increased to 1,397,900 tonnes. This figure represents a rise of 66% on that posted in the previous season and is 15% higher than the average for the last four seasons. Milled olives amounted to 6,799,245 tonnes, with an average performance figure of 20.53%. This is 0.03 points below the figure from last season at the same time.

Provisional imports data for the month of July estimate a total of 103,000 tonnes.

Provisional exports data for the month of July estimate a total of 712,900 tonnes, a decrease of 1% on the previous season and on the average for the last four seasons. The monthly export average for this period stands at 71,290 tonnes.

The apparent domestic market amounts to 435,200 tonnes, an increase of 3% on the previous season and a decrease of 3% on the average for the four preceding seasons. The monthly export average for these ten months stands at 43,520 tonnes.

Total sales (Apparent Domestic Market + Exports) stands at 1,148,100 tonnes, practically the same as the previous season and 2% lower than the average for the last four seasons. The monthly export average stands at 114,810 tonnes.

The total stock volume stands at 533,500 tonnes, 14% lower than the average for the last four seasons. 367,800 tonnes are currently stored at oil presses, which is a decrease of 16% on the average for the last four seasons, 8,700 tonnes are currently stored at the PCO cooperative (Patromonio Comunal Olivarero), while a further 157,000 tonnes are currently held by packaging companies, refineries and operators.

The table olive market

The 2015-2016 table olive season began with stock of 293,320 tonnes at 1 September, 13% lower than in the previous season.

Production stands at 601,860 tonnes, which represents an increase of 8% on the previous season.

Total sales, which include the Domestic Market + Exports, stand at 472,580 tonnes - 295,720 tonnes for export and 176,860 tonnes for the domestic market. Total sales have fallen by 11% on the previous season.

Stock at 31 July stands at 386,510 tonnes, which represents an increase of 15% on the previous season.
