The United Nations political mission in Colombia will be an international component of a tripartite mechanism to oversee and verify a future agreement on a ceasefire and a bilateral and definitive cessation in hostilities between the Government of Colombia and the FARC, together with the surrender of weapons by the latter.

The Government of Spain reiterates its commitment to the Government of Colombia in its search for peace, a commitment that has translated into both our bilateral support (peacebuilding as a cornerstone of our development cooperation in Colombia and support for demining through the training of Colombian officers in this field), and through the European Union, where we have promoted the constitution of a Trust Fund, which will be a key instrument for post-conflict financing, and through the United Nations Security Council in promoting and negotiating Resolution 2261 (2016), which was unanimously adopted.
