The detainee represented a clear threat to national security given that he used virtual platforms and communications to actively convince vulnerable targets, following a prior selection process, on a twofold basis: firstly by issuing a forthright radicalisation message aimed at recruiting new candidates to the Jihad in Syria and Iraq by promoting, nurturing and facilitating their travel to the conflict zone so that they could then join the ranks of DAESH. Secondly, in smaller groups and with a very select audience, the detainee directed his efforts at facilitating the commission of terrorist actions on Spanish territory and in other European countries.

The investigation that is now drawing to a close has clearly shown that the detainee maintained close ties with accredited terrorist leaders currently based in Syria in the service of the terrorist group DAESH, who would then take charge of facilitating both the arrival of new combatants in the conflict zone and of providing instructions and/or resources to carry out terrorist actions in our country or other European countries.

The police operation, which has led to the swift neutralisation of a direct threat, currently remains ongoing.

The actions were headed up by the Judge of the Central Investigation Court number 3 of the National High Court in coordination with the Public Prosecution Service.
