Spain welcomes the smooth development and climate of calm in which the second round of presidential elections and the first round of legislative elections were held in the Central African Republic on 14 February.

The Government of Spain urges all political players in the Central African Republic to maintain peace and calm while awaiting the official results of the elections by the competent electoral authorities and to accept these results as the legitimate democratic expression of the will of the people of the country.

Spain acknowledges the work of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission to the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and to the French operation 'Sangaris', which have contributed to facilitating the peaceful and calm development of these electoral processes through their contribution of human and material resources.
