The group reviewed the regulatory steps taken on the subject of gender equality in Afghanistan (National Action Plan to apply Resolution 1325 (2000) and the Strategic National Plan to Eradicate Violence against Women), and analysed the challenges to its effective application.

Limited access to areas controlled by the Taliban, where the level of abuse of the rights of women and girls is particularly high, is the main obstacle to effectively applying the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) from a gender perspective.

In its role as joint leader of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and as Rapporteur of the Afghanistan dossier on the Security Council, Spain actively promotes the monitoring of these issues on this body.
