Government welcomes election of Spanish candidate to United Nations Committee on Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Spain welcomes the election on Thursday afternoon, in the first round of voting, of the Spanish candidate, Nicolás Marugán, as a member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), within the framework of the 26th meeting of the States comprising said Committee.

The government congratulates Nicolás Marugán, who was the Director of the Spanish Watchdog on Racism and Xenophobia between 2009 and 2014, following a long and renowned professional career in this field, and wishes him every success in the new duties and responsibilities he will exercise.

The Government of Spain takes this opportunity to stress its utmost commitment and full support in the fight against any form of discrimination, which includes racial discrimination.
