This new arrest was made possible thanks to the investigation carried out by the Guardia Civil into this individual, after being radicalised in Spain, leaving the country in mid-2014 and joining the group DAESH, where he received training in handling weapons and explosives and acquired combat experience.

As a result of the Guardia Civil investigation, the Spanish National High Court filed for an International Arrest Warrant in January 2015, which led to the arrest of A.A.E.K. at Warsaw Airport on an inbound flight from Belgrade (Serbia).

The detainee has a profile of a "returning" combatant and his return to the Schengen area would have supposed a threat to security in Europe and Spain.

The operation was carried out by the Public Prosecutor´s Office and the Central Investigation Court number 1 of the National High Court.
