Besides the loss of human life, Spain also deplores the destabilising effect this attack may have on the delicate political situation in Burundi and the region.
The Government of Spain urges the Burundian authorities to do everything possible to identify those responsible for this crime and bring them to justice.
Spain reiterates its call for all parties involved to refrain from any act that could raise tensions and to enter into negotiations in a spirit of good faith, with a view to reaching a peaceful solution to the present crisis and to enable the celebration of peaceful, transparent, credible and inclusive elections.
