Spain wishes to reiterate its firm support for the Government and people of Iraq in their fight against the major challenges they face on matters of security, particularly in the defensive action launched against the terrorist gang 'Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant', which is key to not only guaranteeing security in Iraq but that of the international community as a whole.
The Government of Spain hopes that, as a continuation of the recent appointments of the Speaker of Parliament, Salim al-Jobouri, and the President of the Republic, the Iraqi political forces will appoint a new prime minister within the established deadline, thus fostering a return to the situation of institutional stability that facilitates the establishment of an inclusive government, comprising all the communities present in Iraq.
