  • Director-General of Staff and Services of Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport (1999-2000).
  • Under-secretary for the Treasury (2000-2002)
  • State Secretary for Justice (2002-2004).
  • Managing Director of Ramón y Cajal Hospital (2004-2005).
  • Company Secretary of Board of Directors of CODERE, S.A. (2005-2012).
  • Director of Master's Degree in Public Administration at Madrid campus of ESADE Business School (2005-2012).
  • Associate Professor of Political Science and Administration of Carlos III University in Madrid (2007-2011).
  • Until his appointment as Minister for Justice, in September 2014, he was State Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport and Housing of the Ministry of Public Works, and Chairman of the company ENAIRE.
  • Appointed Minister for Justice on 29 September 2014.
  • Ordinary discharge of duties of Ministry of Public Works taken on since 19 July 2016.
  • On November 4, 2016 he was again appointed Minister of Justice.
