The President of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, met on Friday, 9 December, with the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy. They analysed the agreements reached by European leaders on Thursday night and the future of the European Union.
At the meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy thanked José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero for his collaboration on the building of Europe. José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero took the opportunity to say goodbye to Herman Van Rompuy at the last European Council meeting he will attend as President of the Government of Spain.
Subsequently, the two leaders attended the ceremony for Croatia to sign its Treaty of Accession to the European Union.
José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero arrived in Brussels on Thursday, 8 December, to attend the European Council meetings that began with a dinner hosted for the Heads of State and Government and will continue on Friday with the working sessions.
