Contributory pensions

The monthly amount paid out in contributory pensions by the Spanish Social Security System exceeded 7.38 billion euros by 1 June (7,385,394 euros). This is 4.3% more than in the same month of 2011 according to figures from the Social Security System. The average retirement pension stands at 946 euros, which represents a year-on-year increase of 3.4%.

The average pension from the system, which includes all the various types of pension that exist (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood and those paid to relatives), stands at 829.57 euros per month. This is a year-on-year increase of 3.1%.

The number of contributory pensions by June stood at 8,902,683. This is a year-on-year increase of 1.2%. More than half of these benefits (5,314,791) are retirement pensions, while 2,320,251 are widowhood pensions, 944,794 are permanent disability pensions, 284,522 are orphanhood pensions and 38,325 are pensions that are paid to relatives.
