President Rodriguez Zapatero attended the Summit with the First Vice-President of the Government, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Miguel Ángel Moratinos. King Juan Carlos also participated at this forum.
This morning, Mr. Rodriguez Zapatero, Vice-President Fernandez de la Vega and the King held a bilateral meeting with the Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in which they had the chance to verify the excellent bilateral relations in every area.
During this meeting, the Spanish delegation assured President Lula their aim is to reach an agreement between the European Union and Mercosur countries during the next semester.
They also discussed the 3rd Alliance of Civilizations Forum, which will be held in Brazil in May and which President Rodríguez Zapatero will attend.
Likewise, the President of the Spanish Government conveyed President Lula his wish that Ibero-American leaders reach a common position at the Estoril Summit concerning the situation in Honduras.
Later, during his speech at the first plenary session, Mr. Rodríguez Zapatero proposed a major national agreement in Honduras, to which great Central American, Latin American and European consensus should be added, so that the country can regain its normal democratic status.
